and then when I go to scan down , it freezes and takes a loooong time before it starts responding

Sorry to hear your Fox isn't running as fast as he should, he can be a lazy fox at times :(
Firefox is known to be a bit of a resource hog on your system, the guys over at Mozilla try to sort hings out through system optimization. I would try to do a Firefox update if possible or complete reinstall ( a complete reinstall is best practice)
Due to Firefox having some modification abilities, the more your mess with it or programs change it the more it eats up resources on your system, so a complete reinstall should hopefully speed things up for you. I will put a download link here
