Has anyone else seen this problem?

I have a recurring problem.  At random times, I'll see a  line of circles, just smaller than a dime, in a vertical line about 4" from the left side of the screen.  When they appear, my cursor seems to be drawn to the "search the web and Windows" button at the lower left of the screen, AND, various windows or tabs will start up by themselves.  Sometimes I can close the all, sometimes I can not, and have to turn off my computer by holding the power button until it shuts down. 
 
Sometimes, If I do nothing and wait for it to stop, it will, and I can continue with what I wanted to do with no ill effects.
 
Sometimes, I can't even get past the first lock screen to log on. 
 
Question for all of you....
 
Has anyone seen this particular problem?  How did you get rid of it?  It's a fairly new computer, and when I do a scan with Webroot, it finds nothing.  My son sugggested it was a hardware problem, but I'm thinking software.
