View originalC Cleaner hit again
I downloaded the latest update of Piriform's C Cleaner about an hour ago. Everything looked authentic. No sooner had the download completed than WSA 'zapped' it- apparently it is carrying malware, trojans etc. WSA blocked it, removed it and ra a clean of my PC, then gave me a comforting clean bill of health and a note that it did not appear that any banking etc data had been accessed- I don't do on line banking anyway, but that's not the point. I am impressed with the incredible speed with which WSA acted. As a back up I also ran MalwareBytes afterwrds & that too assured me that all was well. Having now read Google I found a disturbing number of previous incidents where hackers had got into C Cleaner. I wonder how long it will be before Piriform finds out and cleans its own system up? Anyway, folks, I suggest you don't download today's update 12th March 2019 and WELL DONE WSA- WORTH EVERY PENNY.
Thanks for the response. I do use the Free version & have had C Cleaner on my PC's for many years without any problems. I took the download from File Hippo, usually reliable, but obviously carries adverts. Anyway just a cautionary note. I'll give it a breather & see if anything is noticed & reported & then try again. If there is a problem at least I can rely on WSA to protect my PC. No IT system is 'bomb proof' so its good to have protection & back up when needed.
I'm just saying try your best to get downloads from the authors site so it's best get it from here: https://www.ccleaner.com/ccleaner/download
VirusTotal shows 2 AV's detect an added Toolbar so IMO it's unwanted! https://www.virustotal.com/#/file/ea2b0fe19acc526f8c634fe933f63b7f2a1911a27a74dc2d87a5ea6ac4a8f2b3/detection
Note: VT only uses a basic scanner and not the full ones by all AV's.
Thanks,

Hello,
I have no issues with this new version as I use the Pro version but sometimes the free version will add Adware or some call it PUA or PUP but all mean unwanted extras: https://forum.piriform.com/topic/52098-intrusive-ccleaner-pop-up/
Also make sure you download from here: https://www.ccleaner.com/ccleaner/download

Thanks for the heads up but awhile back I noticed when you open CCleaner, the popup "A new version of Ccleaner (5***) is available for download" That, that will send you to an alternate site so i have stopped doing that and just hit the Green Pear(top right) or i just go directly to the site and I get the DL from the author that way. Thanks again.
Personally, I don't think CCleaner is necessary these days and I avoid installing it along with Glary Utilities. Windows has the tools to take care of most of our needs (at least for me anyway) so I try to steer clear of third-party programs as much as possible (especially so-called "free" programs).
I don't use Regedit. Personal files are backed up onto a Western Digital external hard drive with some on the cloud at One Drive. I don't want to take the chance of a hack or disc failure.
May I ask if you use Regeditit or if you know where your personal files are stored on your Pc...
