How do I remove the Webroot Filtering Extension from Firefox?

The Webroot Filtering Extension is crashing tabs in Firefox 80.0.1; however, I can’t remove/uninstall the add-on even if I uninstall Webroot completely. I can’t remove it in the new Edge browser either.

Also, how can I stop Webroot from managing Firefox and other browsers after I uninstall it from my system?

@SplittingDis  please don’t post links to the Beta Group as others can’t see in there, and you should post in there! @OlegP ask support because I see others are having this issue with Firefox and even on Mac’s so it could be something with Firefox but can’t say for sure?

See here for more info: https://community.webroot.com/community-101-2/firefox-browser-is-being-managed-344931

Hello @OlegP

For Windows you can uncheck this box and Save. https://docs.webroot.com/us/en/home/wsa_pc_userguide/wsa_pc_userguide.htm#UsingFirewallWebShieldProtection/ChangingFirewallWebShieldSettings.htm%3FTocPath%3DUsing%2520Firewall%2520%252F%2520Web%2520Shield%2520Protection%7C_____2

HTH,

Hi,

Thanks for the reply. I disabled the browser extensions in Webroot as suggested but unfortunately I still can’t remove the Filtering Extension in Firefox and the browser still says that is being managed by the organization.

Thanks

Hello @OlegP

I don’t know what’s going on here as I don’t see this issue so it would be best to Submit a Support Ticket and they will help you sort it out.

Note: When submitting a Support Ticket, Please wait for a response from Support. Putting in another Support Ticket on this problem before Support responses will put your first Support Ticket at the end of the queue, it should be 24 to 48 hours but could take a little longer because of COVID 19.

Thanks,

I’ve been having a similar conversation here: https://community.webroot.com/wsa-for-home-beta-73/your-browser-is-being-managed-by-your-organization-message-in-firefox-344942

I have the same problem on MacOS devices on Chrome. I tried everything to completely remove it; including adding the extension id to a blacklist, but it still keeps installing it.

The Chrome policy files keep getting overwritten when I reboot.

Have you tried removing the extension folder from the folders? Not sure what it is for Firefox, but for Chrome is should be appdata/local/chrome/Profile #/extension/<extension id>?

Yes, I’ve deleted the extension out from the appdata folder, but it comes back next time I launch Firefox.

I’m hoping that a Webroot employee can provide us with steps to permanently remove and disable the extension from reinstalling itself.
