For a few years now we’ve been conducting surveys of IT professionals to determine their familiarity with, and attitudes toward, artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML). The resulting data have been helpful in illustrating things like:Baseline cyber hygiene, including what cybersecurity tools are in use and how they’re used General experience with data breaches and attitudes toward the safety of their data How many organizations use cybersecurity tools with AI components Whether IT admins feel that AI actively contributes to the safety of their organizations or is marketing fluffWe titled this year’s survey Fact or Fiction: Perceptions and Misconceptions of AI and Machine Learning and expanded it to include professionals in the enterprise, mid-market organizations and private individuals. It's Like 2020 But WorseCheck out the full infographic attached below!Check out our Q&A and maybe even win a prize This year was yet another year with COVID-19 and malware running rampant in the headlines. Be it in person or online, the world is still struggling in the fight against viruses. This year took another ghastly turn when attacking critical infrastructure and supply chains became a new trend. Perhaps because popular botnets were down, or maybe it’s just plain old-fashioned nation-state sponsored attacks. We saw some previous big players exit the scene this year, some vacation to the beach and some off to prison. In any event, 2021 was one where cyberthreats, especially ransomware, dominated the news.Ransomware extortion has evolved from a trend into a new normal. Every major ransomware campaign is running the double extortion method, a scary prospect for small businesses. Not only are they stealing and locking files away, but the bad actors will absolutely leak data in the

Ryuk, SamSam, WannaCry, NotPetya, Darkside, REvil…Somewhere along the line, ransomware variants became household names for anyone with an even passing interest in infosec. But how did we get here?In the second episode of our series on ransomware, featured experts chart the rise of ransomware from a scam run by fake AVs to the multi-billion-dollar racket it is today. From humble origins, this form of online extortion has been co-opted by state-sponsored hackers and turned into a business model with ransomware as a service. An increasingly dangerous (and democratized) threatAs reliance on IT systems grew among businesses, cybercriminals began to realize they could target digital files and demand hard currencies in return. With WannaCry and NotPetya, ransomware combined with worm-like exploits spread with catastrophic consequences.Next, cryptocurrencies made it even easier for ransomware actors to receive and launder funds, leading to “an absolute explosion in extortion and ransomware-bas

While it’s old news to those in the industry, cloud computing has raised questions about data sovereignty and storage that have yet to be fully hashed out. As nations continue to pass laws meant to protect the privacy and identities of their citizens, data storage regulations are subject to change. After hearing from clients and studying new regulations, we are aware that Brexit marks an example of such change. In order to avoid regulatory headaches for partners and clients based in the EU, Carbonite + Webroot, OpenText companies, have opted to open a new datacenter in the Netherlands beginning this August in addition to datacenters it currently operates in the U.K.Admins have the option of relying on this new location for compliance with local GDPR and EU data sovereignty requirements.Through data storage, cybersecurity and user awareness training, Carbonite + Webroot consistently strives to facilitate compliance with industry and governmental regulations for our clients. Headline after headline confirms that ransomware actors are often successful when it comes to targeting business, governmental agencies, public utilities and other high-profile targets. But how, exactly, are they able penetrate the defenses of these presumably well-protected targets? And are small and medium-sized businesses overlooked when it comes to such attacks? In How Ransomware Sneaks In, the first installment of an exciting new series from Carbonite + Webroot, we talk to some of the world’s foremost experts on ransomware for their takes on how cybercriminals sneak ransomware onto business and personal systems. They discuss the role opportunism plays in the targeting process and why thinking big targets are the only targets is a fundamental misunderstanding of the victim selection process. Hey Webroot Community! For a few years, we have copied our existing Knowledge Base onto the Community so that we could make it easier for you to access all of the self-support available. However, it recently became far too difficult to keep both systems in sync with one another due to the manual editing that was required. Moving forward, we will only be keeping our central KB up-to-date: https://answers.webroot.com/With this transition, we have added a list of “Common KB Articles” to the top of the Webroot Community home page:We will keep these lists updated with the most commonly searched KB topics for our consumer and business products. Clicking on any of these will open a new tab to https://answers.webroot.com/ which will look something like this:If you ever have a product question, this will be the best place to start looking for answers. If you have any questions about our transition to using this Knowledge Base, please feel free to send me a private message!
