Perspectives from IT pros worldwide It’s sort of a paradox in our industry: most IT professionals are looking to incorporate AI and machine learning (ML) into their cybersecurity stacks, but many also freely admit to not totally grasping the technologies themselves. Ultimately, these tools can help to up the cyber resilience of businesses of all sizes, but they must be better understood by today’s IT professionals before doing so. “Realistically, we can't expect to stop sophisticated attacks if more than half of IT decision makers don't understand AI/ML-based cybersecurity tools,” says Hal Lonas, SVP and CTO for SMB and Consumer at OpenText. “We need to do better. That means more training and more emphasis not only on our tools and their capabilities, but also on our teams’ ability to use them to their best advantage.” Well, if you want to change something, you need to measure it. That’s why, in a follow-up to earlier related studies, Webroot surveyed 800 IT professionals with cyb
Passwords are a pretty fundamental unit of security, and we go on and on about them, from swearing by password managers to boosting for 2FA. Our most recent version of an annual survey, 2020’s Most (and Least) Cyber-Secure States, is a reminder to keep at it. It seems like some common habits—sharing passwords for streaming services, for example—can significantly raise our risk of falling victim to identity theft. We surveyed 200 Americans from each U.S. state, 10 thousand in total, about whether they typically shared or reused passwords for online accounts. Being mindful about password security is especially important as hackers prioritize phishing attacks. If one of your accounts is compromised by a well-designed phish, it’s fairly simple to cross-check those stolen credentials against a number of other popular sites. What starts with a shopping site login could lead to impersonations on banking sites, social media accounts, or other scenarios involving identity theft. Here are a co

In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, we are extending free trials for business products effective April 1 for the following products: Carbonite Endpoint Protection Products Carbonite Backup for Office 365 Products Webroot Business Endpoint Protection Webroot DNS Protection Webroot Security Awareness Training We simply believe that it’s the right thing to do to extend the cybersecurity and backup and recovery capabilities to all possible users during this time of great uncertainty. Unfortunately but not unpredictably, cyber criminals have used this as an opportunity to target those legitimately seeking information or assistance related to the novel coronavirus. In an effort to stem their success—and to enhance the cyber resilience of current and prospective customers—we have determined this course of action is more important at the moment than business objectives. We encourage Webroot users to notify friends and colleagues of the heightened risk, and to take precautions for prot

As long as COVID-19 represents a global health crisis, hackers will seek to profit from it. Here we'll update our users and partners on the latest news, scams, and developments affecting the novel coronavirus and its cybersecurity implications. False Confidence is the Opposite of Cyber ResilienceHave you ever met a person who thinks they know it all? Or maybe you’ve occasionally been that person in your own life? No shame and no shade intended – it’s great (and important) to be confident about your skills. And in cases where you know your stuff, we encourage you to keep using your knowledge to help enhance the lives and experiences of the people around you. Cyber Resilience for Business ContinuitySadly, many of today’s managed service providers who serve small and medium-sized businesses now have to concern themselves with these very threats. Independent and state-sponsored hacking groups use sophisticated hacking tools (advanced persistent threats or APTs), to gain unauthorized access
We’re all spending way more time online these days, which means it’s more important than ever to take extra precautions about our cybersecurity. But, when we surveyed people in all 50 states about their online safety behaviors and know-how, we learned that a lot of people still aren’t taking their online security seriously. Tune in on March 31st at 10:00 AM Mountain Time. You can sign up for the event here. Be sure to hit ‘Get Reminder’ For example: Nearly 1 in 5 Americans rarely or never back up their files and data Even though 1 in 4 people has had their identity stolen, most people still don’t use identity protection services Tech savvy people are worse about their online security than others Small business owners who know better still aren’t taking precautions, even though they face twice the average risk of suffering a cyberattack The average person won’t change their online security habits until they’ve had a devastating consequence (of people whose identities have been stole

Why World Backup Day is a Seriously Good IdeaWorld Backup Day
The internet has enabled a whole host of silly holidays—from “What if Cats and Dogs had Opposable Thumbs Day” to “Bathtub Party Day.” And the list goes on. But World Backup Day isn’t one of them. It began when a few concerned internet users decided to establish March 31—April Fool’s Eve—as "a day for people to learn about the increasing role of data in our lives and the importance of regular backups." Given that increasing importance, the founders argue, it’s more important than ever that businesses and individuals alike take a moment to imagine what would be lost if all our stored digital data were to up and vanish—or be held for an exorbitant ransom by cybercriminals. It could mean irreplaceable photos of childhoods, vacations, and other life milestones that are lost forever. It could mean an insurmountable challenge to a startup business if mission-critical data is deleted. Because whereas once lost data was the result of failed hard drives or crashed computers, today’s cybercrimina
Hey Webroot Community, We are doing some back-end cleanup of the forums and that includes removing some old “custom user roles”. This should not affect anyone but if you notice that you suddenly don’t have access to a sub-forum that you used to have access to, please let me know. Thanks! -Keenan
Hey Webroot Community, I’m pleased to announce a new feature coming soon to the Community website! We will be implementing a brand new and fully featured Leaderboard “widget” and point-system. These points can be tracked on a weekly and all-time basis and will give us an idea of who is staying the busiest on the forums. Soon to follow after the implementation of this leaderboard, we will be putting an updated badge system in place. These badges will add a new reason to remain active in the forum by giving you all some rewards to work towards! I’ll be updating this thread as we progress in this implementation. Please post any questions you might have or offer any ideas you might have for these new systems! For instance: -Would you like to see any particular badges? What kind of metrics would you use? Most comments/most likes/etc.? -What kind of swag would you be interested in for earning badges? Mugs/cups/shirts? Looking forward to hearing your ideas! :) -Keenan
