Hello everyone and welcome to our latest Q&A.

Today, you’ll be able to talk with the product team and subject matter experts who have played an integral role in our upcoming round of releases for:

  • Webroot®️ Endpoint Protection
  • Webroot®️ DNS Protection
  • Webroot®️ Security Awareness Training

This is your chance to ask the team who has been hard at work building and improving all of the Webroot products you use on a daily basis. So, we want to hear from you!

Just post your questions below and we’ll do our best to answer as many as we can.

We’ve already seen some questions come in over the last week from other customers who aren’t able to make it this morning. I’ll be posting those throughout the next hour on their behalf.

What are the benefits of Webroot DNS Protection if, for example, a client already has a firewall in place securing their LAN?

DNS Protection is a very different solution than a firewall, although there is some overlap. The advantage to DNS Protection is that, on a network, you can filter the DNS requests made by the network. This provides visibility as to what is being asked for, but also the filtering intelligence backed by BrightCloud, so you are not limited by the stagnant intel of a firewall - especially with the short lifespan of phishing sites you need timely intelligence.

As a second advantage, when you install the DNS agent, your users can roam and work from home where they are not protected by the business firewall. With the agent, users are protected regardless of the network through which they connect.

Are you going to give any serious love to the CW Automate plugin?

There are ongoing plans to include enhancements to the CW Automate Plugin. There is a release anticipated for June 2021 time frame with these features being worked by the development team.

  • Heath Check - the plugin will have enhanced option to review/compare endpoints checking into the console vs Automate with a warning that there are discrepancies.
  • User security and privilege's - the next plugin release will have enhanced privileges supporting existing Automate views and accessibility. Details will be in release notes.
  • Fixes - there’s a variety of fixes being included in the next release.

There are plans to support the Web based Automate UI/UX.

Support for both Command and Automate are ongoing. So, stay tuned for changes coming over the next year.

How does Webroot DNS work with VPN / moving laptops between WiFi networks?

Are there any plans to integrate Webroot DNS Protection controls into the Endpoint Protection Console and make one big, unified page?  Because right now, the controls are separated into two separate locations.

Do you think that you could have live courses  for SAT?

We continue to invest in course content and look at different formats / styles / levels of interactivity to add to the library. We haven’t considered live courses, but that’s an interesting idea.

Will we ever have the opportunity to make it easier to remove and then add installs onto system that have been cloned and then report as a secondary install?

The release of the New Webroot Management Console will provide our users with a unified experience, providing easy access to all three products. Check out this post which covers the great features of the new Console:   NEW Major Upgrades Coming To Webroot Console | Webroot Community

How does Webroot DNS work with VPN / moving laptops between WiFi networks?

The DNS Protection Agent identifies connectivity changes, be they Wi-Fi or even VPN virtual adapters, and manages them accordingly. For example, when an SSID changes, the agent will treat it like a new connection, identify the subnet, IP, and the local DNS server for internal resolution, and then start intercepting requests. With VPNs, more logic is applied so that DNS requests are correctly managed by the appropriate DNS resolver. This can be challenging as each VPN behaves slightly differently and they evolve with their releases. With this in mind, each iteration of the DNS agent works to improve this logic. If you have a specific VPN providing challenges, please let us know and we can likely get it working for you.

Will we ever have the opportunity to make it easier to remove and then add installs onto system that have been cloned and then report as a secondary install?

Duplicate endpoints due to cloning techniques is a challenge. However, there is work being done to provide more flexibility related to unique device identification.

In the meantime, there is a work around that may work for the short term. When installing, the agent supports the -uniquedevice command which modifies the machine ID to create a level of uniqueness. Reach out to the Solution Consultant Team for additional guidance.

Are there any developments coming for the endpoint that will allow it to better tackle Ransomware style attacks?

The upcoming release of Foreign Code Shield is a great example of new functionality focused on improving protection. It will be a sub-component of Evasion shield, which was released last year with Script Protection. We will continuously be improving our Evasion Shield capabilities to enhance protection against various forms of highly evasive malware.

One important thing to note is that the Evasion Shield settings are “off” by default. You must enable these settings via policy to ensure the highest level of protection.

How much easier is it (the console) to use than before?

It’s a lot easier. We have extensively researched our redesign of the UX with input from 100’s of customers and using best practice UI design principles. From our own in-house pre-release usage the new console is a lot quicker and faster to navigate around. The modular design, consistent and the unified use of iconography and hover pop-up descriptions plus the simplified navigation make the console even more intuitive than before.

Yes, of course! There are hundreds of articles that will be updated or created on the 27th or very shortly after.
