New DoS attacks taking down game sites deliver crippling 100Gbps floods
Recent denial-of-service attacks taking down League of Legends and other popular gaming services are doing more than just wielding a never-before-seen technique to vastly amplify the amount of junk traffic directed at targets. In at least some cases, their devastating effects can deprive celebrity game players of huge amounts of money. As Ars reported last week, the attacks are abusing the Internet's Network Time Protocol (NTP), which is used to synchronize computers to within a few milliseconds of Coordinated Universal Time. A command of just 234 bytes is enough to cause some NTP servers to return a list of up to 600 machines that have previously used its time-syncing service. The dynamic creates an ideal condition for DoS attacks. Attackers send a modest-sized re
Disappearing behavior of laptops in console?
I was hoping one of the experts can explain what's going on to me? We have about 40 laptops that we're starting to add to our Webroot console. Upon polling through Group Management, they seem to come and go whenever I refresh or jump to the different Views. The All Endpoints view doesn't display all the laptops I've added at once. I thought that once they "phoned home" to the console that they would remain in the Endpoint lists but that's not the case here. For example, just while typing this post, my coworker next to me (503-307) his laptop is showing up in the first poll but when I refresh the view, his laptop with another disappear and are replaced by mine (503-308) and another coworkers. Refreshing again shows 503-307 is back and now 503-311 joined the group. 308, 318 and 325 are no where to be listed. I'm not changing anything that would prompt my laptop to disappear from the console... just typing here at the forum. I've looked at the other vi
How do I eliminate "Ads by Speed Dial" embedded ads from browser pages?
I bought the Webroot SecureAnywhere package to replace the free security package I got from Charter (just moved into an apartment with Uverse). I was hoping it would fix my browser problem that started a few weeks before the move: I'm getting embedded ads in my browsers (predominantly use Chrome) with a footer that reads "Ads by Speed Dial." I also get pop-up windows advertising spyware removers (Max Spyware Detector, Microsoft Essentials, etc.). These pop-up windows usually include a smaller pop-up suggesting I immediately call a number to deal with downloaded malware, and it doesn't want to let me navigate away from the pop-up page. I installed the Webroot package today, but the ads and pop-ups persist. Anyone else dealing with this bs? Anyone got a cure for this malware that doesn't involve caving to the enemy?
Website marked as malicious but warning only flashes on screen!
Windows 7 Pro, WebRoot Endpoint (188.8.131.52) When I first visited this website and tried to download their software, I could tell that WebRoot flashed (very briefly) something in the top-left corner of the screen and then the site's download page reappeared and no download was performed. What I did:

Since I couldn't tell what WebRoot was trying to say to me... I tried the download again...
This time the firefox window went blank and the WebRoot Warning popup appeared in the upper left corner of the browser window.
Choosing CLOSE of course left me without the download, which I suppose is the correct thing until their site is declared clean.
By the way, attempts to start other programs, open the start menu, use any context menus were blocked... the context menus would flash up briefly and then disappear. But the links within the browser page still worked!
By closing the browser and returning to the website, I was able to perform

Alert Interval - sending email about same issue
Hello, what is the default interval that email alerts will be sent when an endpoint reports a threat? I've setup ConnectWise integration and all is working except it's creating duplicate tickets for the same issue. I'd like to modify the alert interval so it only sends a new email after we've had a chance to look at the problem. Last few were about one hour apart. Thanks
Password does not work for "Sync & Backup" section on console. Works to login to account on website.
Password does not work for "Sync & Backup" section on console. Works to login to account on website, however. It worked initially, but after I reinstalled the software it fails to work, message says "username/passord invalid". I reset the password, and it still worked for the website login, but not the console. Please advise.
Returned scam email
Forgive my ignorance... my business Outlook just returned a scam email from my domain but not from me. For example, if my email was email@example.com, this was from Madeline@ruletheworld.com. Ran a Webroot scan on my office PC and no threats found. Any way this is traceable or otherwise how to handle? Many thanks.
This app on iOS definitely needs a major overhaul. 1) fix it for viewing correctly on iphone 6+(and every other iphone from reviews) 2) add features... like a good antivirus program you are on a PC... add remote wipe, remote photo capture, etc... standard features... if iOS won't let you add that, at least fix the browser please.... PLEASE... but I want to see more features than just a browse...r create a robust application. It is so disappointing to go from my PC which has excellent webroot software to the crappy web browser on my iphone....... 3) Enable an auto-sync function to automatically upload iphone media to the webroot backup account.. (if theres a way to do this someone share) 4) Good job on the PC side. Keep up the good work. Just put a little more detail in to the iOS app making and it'll be an awesome suite of security tools!
Some technical questions - rather important
1. What application ports can be open to communicate the Webroot successfully with the cloud? 80 and something else? 2. What will happen - when during the scan Webroot lose access to the internet? Does the scan will be interrupted? 3. Just to be sure - Is it possible to manage the blocked processes and connections from the administrator console? 4. Is the workstation or server that useing unmanaged politics remember determination files identified as good or bad from the console? If yes, what is the pool interval time to get such command? I know that we can not edit it
I signed up for Webroot in August 2014. In receveived no paperwork, confirmation or instructions. I was charged $600 for something. I have been told I did not get a home license. Do I have something else, and if so what is it. I talked to somone named Paul Fattori. I do have a program that supposedly scans my computer daily. The keycode starts with SA6B, the product is Endpoint Protection, version 184.108.40.206.
Who else is using EMET? If not, why?
Microsoft's Enhanced Mitigation Experience Toolkit (EMET) is a shim you can apply to executables on your system to help stop them from being used to attack the system if vulnerabilities are discovered. For example, if you have EMET applied to Java it has notably been able to prevent several zero-day attacks from working. This is what it's intended for. If you don't use it, I highly encourage you to check it out. We've used it for years. "The Enhanced Mitigation Experience Toolkit (EMET) is a utility that helps prevent vulnerabilities in software from being successfully exploited. EMET achieves this goal by using security mitigation technologies. These technologies function as special protections and obstacles that an exploit author must defeat to exploit software vulnerabilities. These security mitigation technologies do not guarantee that vulnerabilities cannot be exploited. However, they work to make exploitation as difficult as possible to perform. The new EMET 4.0 al
Blocking Longer Numbers
Hello, I recently upgraded my android phone to the premier version of WSAM. I'm tryiing to block a number that keeps calling me from area code 011... that's how it comes up on my phone anyways... but the number seems to be too long, or not in the correct format for webroot to block it.... the number shows in my call log as +011-866-4550723, but won't let me enter that through the call logs menu, or manually entering it into the block list. Is there a special way I need to put that in to block it? Or can I only block 10 digit numbers? Thanks.
Microsoft increases OneDrive For Business storage space to 1TB per user
Microsoft is giving current users of its OneDrive for Business service a really big boost in file space. Starting today, the default cloud storage amount has been increased from 25GB to 1TB per user. The Office blog also reports that everyone who subscribes to Office 365 ProPlus will get access to 1TB of OneDrive for Business storage as well, again per user. Microsoft says they will offer help to business that wish to migrate data from their current cloud storage service to OneDrive for Business. These new changes come on the heels of Microsoft launching a standalone version of OneDrive for Business a few weeks ago, without the need to get a Office 365 subscription.
