Hi Cynde,

Welcome to the Webroot Community,

For downloading music legally I recommend iTunes, Google Play, Amazon, etc. Those sites usually charge for songs. There is a lot of music available to legally download free at Archive.org. Mostly live stuff.

Just a couple of suggestions. I'm sure that there are probably other free sources as well. I would stay away from the, shall we say, legally questionable sites. They are most likely, as you've already discovered, risky.

Personally I just stream music from radio stations directly or sites like Mixlr, Tune-in, Pandora, You Tube, etc. But not a solution for offline listening. For that you could find music Podcasts that you can download for free and listen to offline. Personally, I enjoy KEXP's 'Song of the Day' podcast and their 'Music That Matters' hour-long, weekly podcasts that are available HERE.

Hope this info helps. Hopefully others will add their suggestions. ;)
