According to a report from The Guardian, attackers have hacked the European Central Bank, obtaining email addresses and contact information.

The bank has gone on to say that internal systems and market-sensitive data has not been compromised. From the statement:

"The database serves parts of the ECB website that gather registrations for events such as ECB conferences and visits. It is physically separate from any internal ECB systems."

While most of the stolen data was encrypted (according to the bank), the bank also went on to admit that some parts of the databases, such as email addresses, some street addresses, and phone numbers, were stored in plain text.

These cyber criminals are smart enough to do some damage with the information that was available. Street addressees and phone numbers can reveal a lot.
