A security researcher has warned of a vulnerability in devices based on Qualcomm's popular Snapdragon processors that can allow attackers to run malicious software without user knowledge.
Discovered by Dan Rosenberg and unveiled at the Black Hat Conference in Las Vegas this week the flaw stems from a system designed to improve the security of mobile devices: ARM TrustZone. Using TrustZone, systems are able to split software into two halves: a user-facing half and a private system half, theoretically preventing malicious software on the handset from interfering with critical operating system functions.
