While little is known at this point because the whole scrutiny is performed rather quietly, the New York Times writes that Apple and Microsoft are two of the companies believed to be involved.

China is paranoid to the nth degree!!!! They are always looking over their shoulder and everyone is their enemy.

Unfortunately China is a big market and if it were not I suspect that non Chinese companies would just not do business there given all the issues that they face...but money speaks.
