Thanks TH for the heads up.
 
The update loop crash introduced in 12.13 was indeed terrible and was so bad that Opera SAS even withdrew this version from public downloads and reverted back with 12.12 until the yesterday's version 12.14 has been released. So I strongly encourage users with 12.13 to update to the latest build as soonest.

I read issues with the update loop crash, but I did not have any issues with it. What events caused the loop?

Personally I didn`t have any issues with 12.13 but some did like Pegas.

Crash happened when Opera 12.13 tried to do an update of multiple extensions. This happened on a manual "check for update", or in the background, when several extensions were due for update, some time after 12.13 has been downloaded.
