Energy summit bods warned of free energy bonanza

By Jasper Hamill, 30 Oct 2014  British consumers could easily hack the controversial new smart meters the government plans to introduce, allowing them to illegally slash their energy bills, cyber-security experts have warned.
The caution came as top White Hall apparatchiks met with energy industry leaders today to discuss plans that will see the the devices installed in every British home by 2020.
 Smart meters are supposed to provide more accurate bills by constantly monitoring energy use and sending this information to utility providers in real time.

Look at the bright side: they have a chance to close this hole prior to release.  That is a refrehsing change from what seems to be the norm of things being released in essentially a "Beta" form with the attitude to fix any problems post-release.

Well by the time they are released the chances are with being over 5 years away that they will have been redesigned several times and holes found as well several times but yes it is a change to see the problems found first.
