I just installe Firefox (because of the 'Chrome' issues) and it's asking me if I want to install Webroot Filtering Extension 1.2.0.36.  Should I install this?

Hi drts

Welcome to the Community Forums.

The answer is a definitive, YES, as it is part of the Web Shield to your system.

Hello drts

Welcome to the Webroot Community,

If I may add here as well Baldrick?

Please have a look here at the PC User Guide.

Basically the Web Filter protects you from bad Web Pages by Blocking them and give Web Site Ratings when doing searches with Google, Yahoo and Bing.
All done by the Webroot WIN Cloud: http://www.brightcloud.com/platform/webroot-intelligence-network.php & http://www.brightcloud.com/tools/change-request-url-reputation.php

Hope this helps?

Thank you, Baldrick and Ssherjj...
As you can probably tell, I'm not at all computer savvy, and this whole chrome-thing is making me crazy.
I've (reluctantly) downloaded Mozilla, and I'm now going to (reluctantly) uninstall Chrome.  Is there anyhting I need to do to keep my Webroot protection, or will that just stay the same?

And, thanks for your patience and quixk responses.

Hi drts

I was just wondering why you have to uninstall Chrome? You can have 2 browsers if you wanted to.

Webroot will protect you in all browsers. If you happen to have any issues then please let us know and we can help you.

And you are most welcome.

? can you add anything here as well?

I'm a Vista/Chrome user and like many people, have been receiving almost-daily notices like the original one from November, 2015 (below)...
"Today, we’re announcing the end of Chrome’s support for Windows XP, as well as Windows Vista, and Mac OS X 10.6, 10.7, and 10.8, since these platforms are no longer actively supported by Microsoft and Apple. Starting April 2016, Chrome will continue to function on these platforms but will no longer receive updates and security fixes."

All blogs, forums I've read suggest "stop using Chrome and use a web browser that is still getting security updates, such as Firefox (and a few others)".

Anyway, I just don'tfeel comfortable continuing with Chrome anymore.

Hi drts

I understand completely. This is a sad time for XP and Vista users using this browser and also with Windows updates...

Alot of us here do use Firefox and do you know you can import all your favorites to FF. Just a thought.

Sorry ...changes are never easy are they?

Thanks, Sherry...
It's good to know that many of you there use Firefox, but so far, I don't like it at all.
You're right, changes are never easy, but besides all the new things, I'm also frustrated with how s-l-o-w the internet is now I'm using Firefox.
I need to quit dealing with all of this today.  Hopefully things will be better...and faster...tomorrow.

Thanks for your help and concern, Sherry.

Hi ?

You are most welcome. Maybe tomorrow we can figure out why your Internet is running slow?
Edited
Did you perhaps download FF from https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/new/?v=1b

Have a good night!

Hi drts

I may be wrong but I think that Mozilla is actively thinking about doing away with Firefox in favour of a new browser that will most likely not support Win XP...but I suspect that you have time before that happens.

On the other hand have you considered trying Opera (http://www.opera.com)? I believe, from what I read, that it can be run under Windows XP...may be worth investigating as when I last used it (under Windows 7 ) I found it very usuable.

Regards, Baldrick
