How do I safely replace pre-installed Norton Antivirus (Win 8.1) with SecureAnywhere on new laptop?

Please answer question in subject.  I just got a new laptop and want to replace the Norton it had when it arrived.  I'm afraid to uninstall Norton, leaving the system unprotected, prior to installing Webroot.

Can I install Webroot first, then uninstall Norton ?

Exactly what do I need to do ?  I'm not a techie.

Hello and Welcome to the Community Forum,

Yes you can install Webroot now and then uninstall Norton,

Please follow the steps closely!

  • Make sure you have a copy of your Keycode
  • KEEP the computer online  to install to make sure it works correctly
  • Download a Copy Here (Best Buy Subscription PC users click HERE)
  • Install with the new installer, enter your Keycode
  • Let it finish it's install scan
  • Reboot
Please let us know how things are going and if you have trouble uninstalling Norton we have an uninstall tool. You should be able to uninstall Norton from the Control Pane/Programs/Uninstall

Hi xd5y3wz

Welcome to the Community Forums.

If I may just precise here...that the uninstall tool that Sherry is referring to is NOT from Webroot but rather is an official removal tool that is available from Symnatec (Norton) themselves on their support website.  We just have access to it in case a user is unable to get hold of it from there and they are dealing with a stubborn installation of NAV, NIS, etc.

Normally, an unintsll via the built in Add or Remove Program fucntion from Microsoft should suffice.

Hope that helps?
