Apple has applied for a patent that describes a method of adjusting security and other settings for mobile devices based on the location of the device (via AppleInsider). The location data gathered by the system also includes contextual information that helps to identify the phone's position as a familiar or unfamiliar place.

Your next iPhone’s level of security might soon depend on where you are. A new patent filed with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) details a method that would adjust an iPhone’s security levels based on its location. That means something like unlocking your device at home will be much easier than doing the same thing at a restaurant down the street.
