Xbox One Backwards-Compatible? Nope! Don't Fall for the Hoax

Xbox One users -  According to numerous reports, like this one from Mashable, a six-step guide on the popular online forum 4chan is promising the highly-sought backwards-compatibility feature, unlocking the ability to play the hundreds of Xbox 360 games on your new Microsoft system. The problem? It's actually a hoax that can render your shiny new $500 console utterly useless. Larry Hryb, a spokesman for Microsoft confirmed this on Twitter, saying:
 
"To be clear there is no way to make your Xbox One backwards compatible & performing steps to attempt this could make your console inoperable."

343 Industries, a Microsoft developer, explained why the hoax will damage the Xbox One in more detail in a blog post, saying that while all Xbox Ones can potentially be used as developer consoles, the functionality has not yet been set up for resular users and that enabling it will cause the console to go into a never-ending strartup loop.
