I read a lot of articles about yesterday's Apple keynote and have stumbled upon this great roundup. Therein are two sections, iPhone and iOS & apps, the both containing links to the main news.

BTW, what are your thoughts about the new hardware things in 5S and what do you think about the new 5C?

As for myself,
  • 5S - except new A7 chip, M7 motion-sensing chip, iOS7 and Touch ID nothing new. It continues in the footsteps of previous "S" models.
  • 5C - this model is in fact iPhone 5 dressed up in another body, everything would be fine with this model except price - everybody expected a low cost model thus being able to fight with the middle-priced Android phones but it turned out that it wasn't the case. Time will tell ...
  • iOS7 - I like it, cute and smart, a real improvement

Considering zero comments it doesn't look good for iPhone among Webroot users :D

Yeah, actually I understand it. Webroot has only SecureWeb for iOS so comparing to the comprehensive product line for Android plarform (Free, Premier and Complete), iPhone is probably less used by Webrooters.

I have a dream for a perfect mobile device ...
- size of iPhone 5S including 4' RETINA screen
- made of materials used on iPhone 5S (glass, metal)
- crafted made like iPhone 5S
- smoothness of operating system like is iOS
- user friendly operating system like is Android

In short, having iPhone 5S with Android 4.3 is a dream to come :D However staying firmly on feets, this dream probably never comes ;)

My question sort of relates to the above stated fact that the SecureWeb is only solution for iOS.

So, is Webroot planning to release complete security solution (something like is available for Android) in the near future? I know that iOS platform, being the closed system, is not so often targeted by threats what cannot be said for Android but anyway sometime it happens and for such a case it would be nice to rely on something like WSA Complete or so.

Jim or other Webrooters, can you comment upon?

Thanks & regards,
pegas

Got to get Apple to allow security vendors to protect the iOS devices unfortunately.

OK I already know that iPhones are not so in love among Webrooters, so forgive me and accept this thread as my pleasure ;)

After the new 5S and 5C were unveiled last Tuesday a few prominent tech reporters were given with a chance to test the both devices. One of the chosen was Myriam Joire from Endgadget and here's her review of iPhone 5S and iPhone 5C.

Definitely worth to read the both reviews, very interesting read ...

I'm not going to stop you bother with iPhones :p

Pegas, sorry for the late reply.  I was out with a stomach bug yesterday.

It's pretty much as TH said.  Even though the security industry knows Apple's methods of preventing malware from appearing on the Apple store are imperfect, Apple themselves are still stuck to the idea that this kind of thing is preventable by them without any outside assistance.  Not too long ago, it wasn't hard to find an Apple employee who would gaffe that Mac's are impervious to malware.  These days, they are starting to wisen up on that front.  However, iDevices are still getting the "Well, that's surely impossible!" treatment from Apple when it comes to iDevices being infected with malware.  Apple needs to change it's policy before we can produce an iDevice-capable version of WSA that does more than just act as a web browser, password manager, and backup solution.  For the time being, they will not allow "anti-virus" apps on their store.  This doesn't just affect Webroot - it affects all anti-virus vendors.

Thanks for the explanation. I see very valid points in your reply. Yeah, Apple holds strong caps on their OSes. Though I don't think that it's completely bad approach, it is just maybe too much tight. Look at Android, Android stands on the other side of river (open side) what brings unfortunatelly sour fruits in the form of countless meaningless applications which are often source of problems, needless to say about security risks posed.

Everything should be balanced imho. Time will tell if Apple's approach is correct or not as regards security of iOS.

iPhone 5s Outsells 5c by a Factor of 3.4x in the United States Opening Weekend

Full article

It doesn't look good for 5c. Yeah, it's still too early to draw conclusions but the initial figures don't bode well.

Stocks of iPhone 5C are plentiful while, reports say, it's hard to get the 5S version as quickly because demand is high.
