Cyber security software maker Avast has acquired Piriform, the developer of CCleaner, a popular system-cleaning program. The company will continue to offer the tool as a standalone product.

Oh poo...there goes the neighbourhood...given what Avast tend to do I just hope that they leave the experts at Piriform alone...chance would be a fine thing. :(

Exactly Baldrick.
Piriform have made some cracking programs, but it was only a matter of time someone made a bid for them and there goes a good program.

I have been an advocate of the Piriform CCleaner product for years. I am so sad to hear that Avast acquired them. Avast will "integrate" it into their product and end up killing it or they will as advertising to it to monetize it. This is a truly sad day. Anyone found an alternative yet?
