Did you get a chance to see at what percentage it failed or perhaps an error stating which stage it failed at?

You might be able to find out more info by checking your event viewer. I'm sure you know but jic, windows key + R to open the run command and type eventvwr. Maybe check devmgmt.msc for hardware issues and just maybe if the VHD is a fixed size and not dynamically allocated maybe not enough room on drive. Doubt it but jic.

Hi Webrooters!

I tried the Windows 10 Assistant update for 1809. Had to roll back to 1803. Microsoft Edge and Microsoft Store wouldn't connect. Search and Support help would not work. I guess I have to wait for Windows Update! 😞

Wow, that's crazy, Daniel. Thanks for posting. ;)

I think I may wait to install this on all but my Windows Insider PC (which already has it, but I need to repair it).

Exactly Daniel! I am lucky I could roll back without any repercussions. My restore points that I created were gone after udating to 1809. But I hear that updates like that clear things out?

I am happy you didn't lose anything too!

Hi All

Well, am glad to say that 1809 has been installed on main system & tablet since Tuesday (using the Update Assistant) and not a hitch detected or any sign of anything deleted that should not have been. All is tickety boo.

And there are some really useful additions to Windows 10, that are starting to round it out somewhat.

But that makes me wonder how it got past all of the Insider testing that I thought was supposed to happen prior to release...specifically to prevent this sort of thing happening.

As I am not seeing any issues at present I am not rolling back, but I daresay that Microsoft will need to correct & re-enable downloads pretty quickly if they are to avoid a PR disaster, and then make sure that if there is anything lingering re. those users that have apparently installed the update successfully, also issue patches, etc.

Wonder also if this will prompt a re-evaluation of the Insider program as in this case...it has clearly left something to be desired. :(

Hi Baldrick,

I just read this from someone that is on frequently on answers.Microsoft that had this to say.
Just searched the feedback hub app for "documents deleted" and am deeply disturbed by the history prior to release of Windows 1809 found things like this, many months old. and there are more reports like these. and some had reported happening with multiple builds.

So Baldrick these issues were reported and not tended to. So whomever releases these builds are not taking these issues seriously.  One Microsoft user lost 260GBs of 23 years of saved Data,  Documents, pictures ..etc that were wiped clean with Windows October 2018 Update. He was able to roll back but Documents were gone. But he had a backup and could retrieve most of it but not all. Very sad!

Known issues updating to Windows 10, version 1809

Symptom
We have paused the rollout of the Windows 10 October 2018 Update (version 1809) for all users as we investigate isolated reports of users missing some files after updating.

I never seen the issue because I use VM's but if was on a Test machine then we would of noticed.

So this only makes the whole thing worse morally...MS knew about the possibility of the issue occurring but went ahead with the release...bunch of schmucks! :@

That is exactly the same for me Daniel, I just use VM's for the Insider Program
Greetings friends, In regards to the Windows 1809. This update attempted to automatically install on my HP desk top on 10/3/2018. It stopped all by itself at 61%. Then a day later it tried again only to stop at 74%.

So here we are 2 days later and the update/security still shows " failed to install ". There have been other updates that were successfully updated and installed.

At this point should I just not worry about the 1809 and don't do anything until Microsoft figures the issues out. If they do figure the issues out, will it automatically pick up from 74% and continue with the install ?
I'm not a computer guy and I can almost guarantee that if I attempt a fix, something will go haywire and I will probably end up tossing the computer out the window.

Reading some of the horror stories about people loosing files and photos and music, etc... has me leery, hence the hesitation to do any manual fix's.
