I am unable to check for my windows updates any ideas?
It states on my program that I need to update but I am unable to update my windows upgrades any any ideas? thanks for your kind attention.

Can you provide a little more specific detail? Which program states that you must update? What version of Windows are you currently using? Does Windows Update show that it is current, or does it show that updates are needed?

? what OS are you running.. Have you located the windowsupdate log file ??
In Windows 7 or 8 you should be able to find that in the windows directory. It's called windowsupdate.log.
Post a sanitized version of the log file so we can see what's in there. It 'll point us & you in the right direction to find why it doesn't work for you.
In windows 10 it's working differently. There you can obtain the info thru powershell.
Windows Update logs are now generated using ETW (Event Tracing for Windows).Please run the Get-WindowsUpdateLog PowerShell command to convert ETW traces into a readable WindowsUpdate.log.For more information, please visit http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=518345
