But I think that Libre Offie is probably the free 'market' leader, and I believe that one can now get a portable vesion of it. ;)

WPS office. Has the closest UI to MS office

When I tried OpenOffice (admittedly some time ago) I found it worked well itself but the problem was when opening existing Microsoft Word docs the formatting , unless it was a very simple document, would be messed up. Maybe it has improved since or some of the others are better at conversion ?

LibreOffice is another alternative. It's an offshoot of Open Office and some people prefer it to Open Office.

Hi Tom

I started using Softmaker FreeOffice over two years ago and have found it excellent. It works extremely well with all MS Office formats and is totally compatible. You can read about it here.

I did subsequently upgrade to the commercial version because at the time they had a tremendous offer and the cost was really minimal.

Hello tommss,

I have found others who use Open Office  You can download it from their official site here (openoffice.org will redirect you to Sourceforge)

Hope this helps?
