Password character limit

I went to change my password on these here forums and was amazed to see a twenty character limit. Why does such a restriction exist?

It's probably the forum software Lithium and I don't like it as it's all based on HTML. BB CODE is much easier.

I just find password limitations ludicrous. I was a little more surprised than usual because of Webroot being a security company.

No limits on password length.
