Windows? IE only Temp Files

The system analyzer always indicates "A large # of Temporary Files have been found in Windows/IE only (3945 MB)". Would this have any effect on my PC performance? If it does, what happens if I deleted them and how do I delete them - without having to read MS help for the next 2 hours?

Something I forgot to mention about the portable version of CCleaner. It doesn't include any 3rd party installers that @Jasper_The_Rasper mentioned, so it's safe to run. @Jasper_The_Rasper's point is still valid for a lot of software and it's always possible that the CCleaner portable may change in the future. However, based on the way it's built now, there is no installation, so there isn't any 3rd party software. Just wanted to add one final point now that @TripleHelix's post has been marked as the answer. Congrats @TripleHelix and great points from @Jasper_The_Rasper! 😀

Thanks @Jasper_The_Rasper I wasn't thinking about that as I have the Pro version! 😉

Just 1 point to add when you install 3rd party programs like CCleaner as an example, keep an eye open for the opt out boxes for optional extras (CCleaner has Chrome prechecked) and uncheck the boxes to prevent an accidental installation of what can be malicious downloads in some cases.

Thanks for posting the links @TripleHelix. I didn't post the Disk Cleanup link because I didn't know what version of Windows @avnotech was on.

As for the CCleaner link, here's an optional link that includes a download for the full installer or the portable version I mentioned. https://www.ccleaner.com/ccleaner/builds

Just to add to what Nic said:

System analyzer it just a basic tool and there is nothing you can do with what it reports so I wouldn't worry about what it says but you could clean up a few things.

  1. Run Disk Clean Up from within Windows: https://support.microsoft.com/en-ca/help/4026616/windows-10-disk-cleanup and look here: https://neosmart.net/wiki/disk-cleanup/
  2. Run System Optimizer if you have it? https://docs.webroot.com/us/en/home/wsa_pc_userguide/wsa_pc_userguide.htm#UsingSystemOptimizer/UsingSystemOptimizer.htm%3FTocPath%3DUsing%2520System%2520Optimizer%7C_____0
  3. Download the free version of CCleaner and run it (Optional): https://www.ccleaner.com/ccleaner/download
That will clean up most of the unneeded files on your system.

Thanks,

If @TripleHelix's option doesn't work, you can always use the built in Disk Clean-up program in Windows. After doing that, I would suggest also using the Windows built-in Disk Defragmenter program, unless you have an SSD drive. You can run Disk Defragmenter on an SSD drive, it will just cause more wear on it. SSDs wear out faster the more you read and write to them. Traditional HDD drives could handle this stress better, but needed defragmenting to make it easier to find and read files stored on them. SSD drives are faster, so finding and reading files that are defragmented isn't a big deal generally.

Another option you can use is CCleaner. You might want to download and run this tool anyway. It will clean-up all kinds of stuff on your system. There's a portable version you can get that you don't even have to install if you prefer.

Good Luck!

Hello @avnotech and Welcome to the Webroot Community!

Have a look here and use System Optimizer if you have it in your product version: https://www5.nohold.net/Webroot/ukp.aspx?login=1&pid=12&app=vw&solutionid=1599&donelr=1

Temporary Files (Cookies) https://www5.nohold.net/Webroot/ukp.aspx?pid=12&ruleid=2064#null
