How to ruin your reputation in one easy step
This is why I never put anything in writing, no matter how private, that I wouldn't be ok with the whole world seeing: http://www.cnn.com/2014/02/27/tech/web/linked-in-cleveland-job-bank/index.html?hpt=hp_c2
I'm using the Business User Protection package and try as I might I cannot get Webroot to automatically quarantine a virus. I have tried on several different machines with different OS versions and no joy. Even with the test virus that Webroot recommend using it still won't quarantine the item. The most annoying thing is that it is being recognised as such, but the user can still run the application. Even Webroots own test one! This just isn't acceptable if I have to deploy this into a business as the user will have run the virus long before I get a chance to clean it off the system. And is there anyway to alert the user that there is a virus present, preferably with a custom message? I really like the Webroot features, but I'm on the verge of going for another product. Rob

In a post on the OneDrive blog, Microsoft said that the stand alone service will be offered starting on April 1st. Good Morning One of our customer tested WSA on Win Server and noticed that Webroot after logging out from 'Win Server Terminal Session' is not shutting down properly. The process wrsa.exe need to be killed manually. It is rather unwanted effect - maybe you guys know something about this?

Microsoft will sell Windows Enterprise Edition stand alone SKU March 1st
If you are a small business, you will soon be able to get a version of Windows that has previously been available mostly for larger companies. Today, Microsoft has confirmed that the Windows Enterprise Edition will be sold as a stand alone product for anyone to purchase starting on March 1st. Previously, access to the Enterprise SKU was only possible for small businesses if they signed up to use Windows Intune, or for middle and large companies via a volume license deal with a Software Assurance subscription. However, it appears that Microsoft has received requests from many customers to gain access to the Enterprise version without having to sign up for any kind of service. According to a statement sent to ZDNet by a Microsoft spokesperson: "
How did you get into IT?
It's always fun to hear people's stories of how they got started. For me it was the classic accidental IT pro. I graduated from college and had no idea what I wanted to do next. Ended up working for a government contractor who had a contract to support a couple hundred people in a department at HHS in DC. I'd grown up tinkering and programming (my first computer was a C64) so I enjoyed getting to learn more in a professional setting. Back in those days hardware was a lot more tricky (anyone remember dip switches and IRQ settings) and it was fun for me to get my hands on a much wider range of stuff than I had at home. We were a Novell shop so I got to learn Groupwise. From there I spent about 10 years doing SMB IT work until I found my way to community management. How about you guys? How'd you get your start?
Anyone use Spiceworks and know about SpiceRex, their community mascot?
If you're not familiar with him, he is the mascot invented by the Spiceworks community. He travels around visiting IT pros and seeing the sights. He stopped by the Webroot office, so I gave him a tour and posted a bunch of photos. You can see them in the SpiceRex group on the Spiceworks community here.
Adding the entire program/application to white list & directory exclusion
Hi If it possible (for example through WR support) to adding the entire program/application to white list - not with file MD5 one by one? And if it possible to excluded some directory from scanning? My customer has a program that is updated frequently and would like to have it taken care of once and for all. Thank you in advance for answer
Neat idea: cable tester that connects to your smartphone
It's called Pockethernet and is $17k towards its $50k goal: http://www.indiegogo.com/projects/pockethernet-the-swiss-army-knife-for-network-administrators If it does half the things they're aspiring to put in it, looks worth the price if you already have a smartphone.
Yahoo password breach - good opportunity to educate your users
Our own is quoted here about being responsible for your security: “In addition to multiple passwords, end users should also change their passwords on a regular basis and make sure to take advantage of any additional layers of security available such as biometrics, PIN and so on to ensure their data is safe in spite of any attempted hacks.” Since many people use the same password everywhere, your users could have a home Yahoo account with the same password as their work accounts. Good time to remind everyone to change their passwords or update your security policy to require regular changes.
Some technical questions - rather important
1. What application ports can be open to communicate the Webroot successfully with the cloud? 80 and something else? 2. What will happen - when during the scan Webroot lose access to the internet? Does the scan will be interrupted? 3. Just to be sure - Is it possible to manage the blocked processes and connections from the administrator console? 4. Is the workstation or server that useing unmanaged politics remember determination files identified as good or bad from the console? If yes, what is the pool interval time to get such command? I know that we can not edit it

Why not deploy the numpad fix to everyone?
Could someone break down the exact technical reason that the numpad registry key shouldn't be deployed to every computer? I haven't seen an explanation of the exact cause of computers ignoring numpad input other than its the Identity Shield. Or what I lose by applying the key to a computer. Thanks!
I purchased Webroot a long time ago because i heard it was good, but i have a question. If it is suppose to stop threats why did i get the LPPlugin _x64.dll problem and then the Webroot rep tells me that the Registry needs to be fix, Restore Point needs to be fix, Windows update needs to be fix, Over all (Optimisation) And then trys to sell me the following Windows Expert:-, Bestbuy/Staple:- $250 one time fix assurance 30-60 days., Online Tech Support:- $199.98 fix the current issue, assurance for 1yr., Total Defence PC Tune up for 1 yr. upto 3 computer. Has anyone else gone through this? He said this problem was caused by some virus trying to get in. I am not a computer expert but I do purchase software to protect my computer.
Ability to view windows username and/or computer name?
Hi all, Is there a way to view a user's windows login ID or their computer name of an endpoint through Webroot console? I have multiple endpoints that have been cloned which I cannot identify by just the hostname. Also is there a way to permanently rename the hostname of the endpoint once I get the correct ID? Otherwise, my console is just going to stay a mess of all these cloned hostnames and I'll have to bust out Excel just to keep track. -Natalie
Hi, I'm deploying Webroot throughout my organisation and I'm having a few issues with updating. Those endpoints at sit behind a corporate firewall and proxy server will not update. It will download the update but somewhere along the lines it gets corrupted. I've checked the firewall and there is no problem. I've checked with the support people for our web device / proxy and nothing is being stopped. The only way I can update the agent is to manually uninstall it or through the console. Then manually install latest update on the endpoint. I've contacted Webroot support but it seems to be baffling them as well. I got so fed up with 1 endpoint I ended up reinstalling Sophos. Please help?!!!
