On Saturday, Microsoft, a documentary film crew, and some big excavation machines proved that Atari had indeed buried unsold  "E.T." 2600 game cartridges in a New Mexico landfill during 1983, along with other titles from that classic console.

Now, Microsoft has posted up a brief video clip on YouTube that shows the highlights from the event in Alamogordo.
The video is hosted by Microsoft's Xbox Live director of programming Larry "Major Nelson" Hryb and shows the heavy machinery that was brought in to excavate the landfill. It also features brief chats with many people involved in the documentary of the Atari "E.T." game including director Zak Penn. The last part of the video shows the first copies of the game that were found in the landfill, which confirmed what was previously thought by many to be just an urban legend.

Such a piece of gaming history!  I wonder if any of the carts still worked?
