Can I use Backup & Sync without using the app from the Windows Store?

I am new to Webroot and have the Anywhere Complete version. Although my main computer is a desktop running Windows 8.1 with Classic Shell installed, I would like to use the Backup & Sync feature without using the app from the Windows Store. Can I do this, and where can I find some information about handling various aspects of Backup & Sync? For example, I don't fully understand the features of Backup & Sync, such as the difference between whether a folder is simply being backed up or is being synced. I am mainly interested in backing up some files in the cloud to have them stored away from my home. Are the folders that are backed up being updated as the files in the folders are changed?
