WSA is in fact not a maintenance program but an anti malware one. If your where meaning the latter rather than the former then the answer is 'Yes', WSA should be all that you need for protection against malware.
And for further information on this may I direct you to a recent thread in which one of our gurus provide a more detailed response to a similar question.
