Why do I have Windows Defender in the right-click menu instead of WebRoot? And how do I fix it?

Windows 10 x64 Anniversary edition - I cannot get the "Scan with WebRoot" entry on the context menu when I right-click a file.  Instead I get "Scan with Windows Defender"  How do I get Webroot onto that menu?  Can I have both options there?

I cannot uninstall, as it doesn't appear in the list of installed programs. But it's active & accessible from the hidden icons at lower right of the desktop...

Hello Nultech,

Welcome to the Webroot Community,

I had the same thing happen after updating to WIN10 Anniversary edition.

Please try an uninstall/clean reinstall as that is what worked for me.

Please follow the steps closely!

  • Make sure you have a copy of your 20 Character Alphanumeric Keycode! Example: SA69-AAAA-A783-DE78-XXXX
  • KEEP the computer online for Uninstall and Reinstall to make sure it works correctly
  • Download a Copy Here (Best Buy Subscription PC users click HERE) Let us know if it is the Mac version you need.
  • Uninstall WSA and Reboot
  • Install with the new installer, enter your Keycode and do NOT import any settings if offered by the installer as you can set it up as you like once it's done
  • Let it finish it's install scan
  • Reboot once again
Please let us know if that resolves your issue?

Thanks,
 BD
