I've just had a somewhat frustrating encounter with Support. First off, the guy didn't know what Process Explorer is. Secondly, he told me it shouldn't be on my Desktop. Thirdly, he said it should already be "in Windows folder where the explorer is running." He then asked me why I "downloaded those exe from different places?" New Technical Support account
After submitting a ticket last night, I was given a link to download wsalogs, which I ran. After uploading the necessary files, it opened a Technical Support website (as it informed me it would) but it seems to have created a new account for me. I've also received an email with logon information, with a different password from what I normally use. So, do I now use this new password going forward, or is this a one-off for the wsalogs ticket?
Webroot SecureAnywhere Essentials issue.
Hi, To Start off, both me and my mom were updated to Webroot SecureAnywhere Essentials about 6 months ago. We both currently have version 220.127.116.11 (we're on the same license) and we both use PCs that run Windows 7. Before the update (aka the old version of Webroot), we would run scans, and it would catch everything, and it worked great. However, after the update, we both noticed that our scans would not detect any threats. I thought this was normal at first, but six months later, and after 50 or so scans, Webroot has not detected a single thing. I know that this cannot be pure luck, because Webroot was always catching things, on the old version. We checked to see if our subscription had run out, but we still have 279 days left on it. So...all in all, we're a little confused as to why nothing has been caught, ever since we were updated to the new version. Any help or input is appreciated! On a side note...we both have all of our Webroot firewalls and shields activated.
Reactivate a Computer
Hi Folks I have two computers protected with WSA Essentials. In the My Account list they are both shown but one computer shows the results of the last scan, the other infers that the computer has never been scanned (which it has). Any ideas? Thanks John *edit for useful subject line - admin
Scan on boot up if computer...has mind of its own
Anybody experiencing this 'featurette'. Uncheck the 'Scan on boot up if computer....' option under the Scan Schedule tabs in Settings, and then check on it after a reboot or the following morning (when you would usually have rebooted if you switch your PC off overnight). Does anybody find that the option has somehow gotten itself rechecked, ie, it is ON again? Have just noticed this (but to be fair have had some issues with this option before & uninstalled completely and reinstalled to try to resolve it.) Be interested to see if this is happening to anyone. Am running latest build .193. Regards Balders
WSA blocks Java plugins in Opera 12
Hello, Just updated Opera to the latest build 12.00 and have noticed that WSA blocks Java's plugin (having Java SE 7 update 5). There is no other solution than to move Opera from Protected to Allow. Today, before update to Opera 12.00, no problems experienced, i.e. Opera set to Protected and Java plugins worked correctly. However WSA doesn't block Java in IE9 even if IE is set to Protected. It looks like that this issue is somehow related to today's release of new Opera 12. [h2]Answer[/h2]It is normal for Webroot search annotations to be disabled on systems that: 1. Have another search page annotation system running. 2. Connect to the internet via a HughesNet satellite connection. 3. Connect to the internet via a proxy server. Also, please keep in mind that search annotations are not available for secure Google searches (HTTPS). If you are logged into a Google account and are therefore using Google's secure search feature, your Webroot search annotations will not appear. You should also ensure the option for search annotations is turned on. The setting is "Analyze search engine results and identify malicious websites before visitation," and it is located in PC Security > Shields > Web Threat Shield > Change Settings
Identity shield not working?
Just decided to test WSAE. De-installed KeyScrambler for the Identity Shield feature. In order to test whether it's working, I used the Zemana tester that was recommended here. When allowing it in my HIPS, it detects everything. This goes for every application I've manually set to Protect: word-pad, notepad, office, Mozilla... So what's the deal? A bug, or am I doing something wrong?
Confused by Identity Shield settings
I'm confused about the settings for Identity Shield. There are 3 different sections. There is the Identity Shield settings tab (DNS, screen capture, man-in-middle, etc) There is the Protected Application list There is the Protected Websites list So, my questions are: 1) If an application is not listed in the Protected Apps list, do any of the settings from the Shield tab or the Protected Websites apply when using that app? 2) Are the Protected Website settings active when using *any* browser? If not, which browsers are supported? Must they appear in the Protected Apps list to have this protection? 3) In the Shield Tab settings one option is "prevent programs from accessing protected credentials". What are protected credentials and where/how are they determined? 4) Similar question to #3 but for the "Allow trusted screen capture programs access to protected screen contents". Where is the list of trusted screen capture programs and how is it deter
(BUG) Secure Anywhere Essentials slowing down my Media Players on open!
Hello, I have been running Webroot Secure Anywhere Essentials 2012 for about 25 days and I really do love it and it has become my favorite AntiuVirus software. However I started noticing somethig very strange going on lately. 2 of my media players Daum PotPlayer x64 Edition and Media Player Classic - Home Cinema x64 take like 6 seconds to open with Webroot Secure Anywhere running. If I close down Webroot Secure Anywhere both my media players open in less then 1 second just about instantly. And if I turn Webroot Secure Anywhere back on both media players still will continue to open in about 1 second. Then after so many hours have past all of a sudden both media players take 6 seconds or more to open again. Also if I just change any Prosses from Allow, Monitor or Block under System Tools, System Control, Start Control Active Processes menu it once again aloow both my media players to open in 1 second. So to sum this all up in normal use both these media players should always open
Web-Threat Icons doesn't show up on Searches
Hi there, I got the Webroot SecureAnywhere Antivirus, and everything seems to be working. Though the only problem I have is the webThreat Icon doesn't show up in any of my searches using FF, IE and Chrome I tested if the webthreat is working by blocking a website using Webroot, and it works, but I still don't know why the icons don't show up in my google searches
(Bug) "Scan with webroot" on right click menu stops working at random times!
Hello, I think I have come across another "bug" concerning the "Scan with webroot" on right click menu. I don't know what causes it but at random times on all my computers running Webroot Secure Anywhere Essentials 2012 Version 18.104.22.168 the "Scan with webroot" on right menu stops working. What happens is I right click on a file or folder and and click on "Scan with webroot" and then nothing happens. I get no pop up box from Secure Anywhere showing its scanning. And when this bug happens the only way I seem to be able to get "Scan with webroot" working again I have to shut down Secure Anywhere Essentials and restart it. Once I do that "Scan with webroot" works like normal again until the random bug happens again. But like I said I have no idea what makeit happen in the first place. But there must be a bug somewhere in the software that neess to be fixed. Anyone else here every have this happen? Thanks
Chrome being monitored
Last night I noticed that Chrome had moved from its usual 'Allow' under System Tools > System Control > Control Active Processes to 'Monitor'. With this has come a spike in system resources, I'm guessing because of the journaling in the background. Is it common for a program to move from 'Allow' to 'Monitor'? If so, what could cause this?
PC Security console
I installed WSA on my wife's laptop but it is not visible on the PC Security console. I did have WSA installed on there a couple months ago, uninstalled it then asked the support team to have it removed from the console. Could this be why it's not showing up even though it's installed again? P.S. As a disclaimer, I have reported this to the support team via a ticket but I've not heard back since Saturday, so I thought I'd ask here too.
(Bug) "Scan with webroot" on right click menu Recycle Bin?
Hello, I am a new user to Webroot Secure Anywhere Essentials 2012 and so far I think its just fantastic :) However I think there is a bug or glitch that I have found and am hoping it will be fixed. After I right click on the Recycle Bin and run "Scan with webroot" it disappears from the right click menu. Even if the same files still remain in the Recycle Bin "Scan with webroot" is gone the very next time I right click on the Recycle Bin. However I also noticed when you add more files to the Recycle Bin the "Scan with webroot" returns to the right click menu. I also noticed when there are no files in the Recycle Bin there is still a "Scan with webroot" in the right click menu. Like for example if a restore a file from the Recycle Bin the "Scan with webroot" remians on the right click menu even though there are no more files in the Recycle Bin. Is this how the "Scan with webroot" is supposed to work? I would like
Site Warnings and In-Site Ad Blocking
Hi, I just switched from Webroot Security Essentials to the Secure Anywhere Essentials and I read some things on the forum so far that answered most of my questions. The only other thing I'm concerned about is that when doing gooqle searches, the old webroot essentials would notify me next to the links whether they were known threats or safe, or suspicious sites. Also, some sites I would go to that had ad banners on the side of the pages were also blocked. I've noticed that with the new secure anywhere essentials this is not the case. It doesn't warn me on any of the links I search nor does it seem to block ads in sites I visit that it use to block ads in. Is there a setting to turn that back on, or how does it work now? Thanks.
Excluding files from scan
Hi I have an issue when installing PTP Accounts. The tallcomponents.pdf.controls. winforms.dll keeps getting picked up as a threat and is then deleted. I ran a manual scan on one machine and selected to ignore the threat but I can't do this for every machine. Is there something I can do to prevent the scan detecting this file as a threat? Question re 'Monitor'
When a program is marked as 'Monitor' under System Tools > System Control > Control Active Processes, what exactly is Webroot doing? I ask because a couple of legitimate programs I use are currently labelled as such. Also, is it advisable to leave them, or can I move them to 'Allow' if I know they're legit?
What protocols does WSA Essentials scan?
Does WSA Essentials only scan on access with its cloud database? Under what circumstances will WSA scan a file or executable with its cloud database? I'm assuming WSA Essentials Identity Protection uses something similar to a behavior blocker from within the browser & also limits connections for a particular page, but WSA does not scan HTTP, HTTPS, FTP, SMTP, or POP3 protocols with its cloud database. Am i correct in my understanding of how WSA works. WSA does not scan HTTP, HTTPS, FTP, SMTP, or POP with its cloud AV. Is this correct? I'm trying to learn the fine mechanics of how WSA works so I can make an educated decission on which security products would best compliment WSA for my particular needs. I work with sensitive data, and need to make sure i'm covering all posible entry points that could be exploited. It would be great if I could obtain some detailed documentation or be advised by someone that is very knowledgable on the fine mechanics of WSA. Thank You in advance!
Scan on boot up if computer off at scheduled time!
Any one else having a problem with the "Scan on boot up if computer off at scheduled time" being UNCHECKED but WSA still carrying out a post boot scan, even if the (i) the previous scheduled scan did occur...although that was the previous day & (ii) the scheduled scan time set if AFTER the time of the reboot? Scenario for me was (i) booted up, (ii) noticed that there were some Windows updates to install, (iii) installed those, (iv) rebooted as required by the update process...and bingo...just after the reboot had completed I noticed WSA scanning. Not sure if this is a bug, given what I have advised above, or if I have misunderstood the settings/misconfigured WSA. Any thoughts? :$ Regards Balders
