London teen arrested over Spamhaus attack

A LONDON SCHOOLBOY reportedly has been arrested by UK cyber cops on suspicion of involvement with the internet crippling cyber attack on Spamhaus last spring.

Spamhaus was assaulted in March. According to Cloudflare, an outfit pulled into assist Spamhaus, it was faced with a strong attack and changing tactics.

"On Monday, March 18, 2013 Spamhaus contacted Cloudflare regarding an attack they were seeing against their website spamhaus.org. They signed up for Cloudflare and we quickly mitigated the attack. The attack, initially, was approximately 10Gbps generated largely from open DNS recursors," Cloudflare said in its report about the incident.

"On March 19, the attack increased in size, peaking at approximately 90Gbps. The attack fluctuated between 90Gbps and 30Gbps until 01:15 UTC on March 21."

Spamhaus wrote on Monday that it has identified two U.S. nationals, two Russians and one Chinese national at large whom it believes participated in a large distributed denial-of-service attack (DDoS) that was nicknamed "Stophaus."
Spamhaus is a frequent target for retribution due to its widely used data feeds that help software applications identify and filter spam messages.
