Hi clansoccer

Welcome to the Community Forums.

This is actually a difficult one, i.e., not clear cut as csrss.exe is the name of a critical system process but it is also the name of malware. Which it is depends on where it is found.  The legitimate location will be in system32...if it is found anywhere esle then it is probably suspicious at best and malware at worst.

For peace of mind, please find the file you are concerned about, right click on it and select 'Scan with Webroot' from the context menu displayed.  If you want a second opinion you can also upload the file for a scan at VirusTotal:, but a scan with WSA should be sufficient for a determination.

If you have any further doubts then it would be best that you Open a Support Ticket and let the professional on the Support Team check it out and then deal with the issue for you.

Please come back and let us know what you find.

Hello and Welcome to the Webroot Community!

Yes that file should be safe and WSA would know if it was infected with malicious code just follow what Baldrick suggested to make sure!

Here is some info on that Process: http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/protect/forum/mse-protect_scanning/is-csrssexe-a-safe-process/26bba20c-2691-4d42-bec4-637436c53c4f
