You installed a piece of mild junkware onto your system that uses the Conduit crapware platform. WSA removed the active portion that was hooking into your browser. It may have made other modifications that need to be removed.

Go through your Add/Remove Programs and remove any toolbars or other software you did not intend to install.

Hi Explanoit,
have looked for toolbars and found three
Google

Ask , which I have had for a long while without any problems (as I don't use it I have removed it)
then there is

SearchElf_1.2 Toolbar    rarely used according to the info supplied  (I didn't install this knowingly)

Have attempted to remove it using add/remove  however ''Wise Uninstall'' tells me that it cannot access the
INSTALL.LOG file

Update.

Have successfully managed to gain access to the IRDT site
(could it have been the ASK toolbar causing the problems, as this is the only piece of software that I have removed?)

Hi Road,
Yes browser extensions can modify browser behavior and break functionality.
